Giving back to the WordPress community
Teaching is by far one of the best ways to hone your skills and give back to the community. However, one of the most difficult aspects is creating the required teaching material. Wouldn’t it be great if you could simply download someone else’s curriculum, slides and exercises? The following website intends to do just that. Aimed at WordPress teachers, I’ve gathered all of my notes, slides and tutorials and made them available for download (see individual lessons for downloads).
Created originally for students enrolled in the Electronic Media Design Program at Langara College, the goal of the class is to educate web developers on how WordPress can be used to create an online portfolio.
Throughout this class students will learn:
- Introduction to WordPress; what is it and how can it be used?
- What are some of our options when creating WordPress themes?
- Child themes vs premium themes vs custom themes
- Advanced theming using the body class, custom post types, page templates, custom fields and featured images
- Integrating jQuery, web fonts and various different plugins
If you are a teacher, feel free to download the course material, read the tutorials and contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to contribute.
